Hi, thought I would let you know what has been happening with the Hendersonville Tomorrow Committee. Our report (say HUGE) was submitted to BOMA, some time ago but this was unfortunately on a day that Mayor Foster was out of town. About a month ago we had a follow-up meeting at which time Gary Kaufman, the current chairman, resigned and I was elected in his place. Gary has promised to stay on the committee and provide moral support to me which I very much appreciate. The two of us met with Mayor Scott Foster and Planning Director Fred Rogers about two weeks ago. Jointly, we decided that the report was too large to be discussed at one BOMA meeting. It was decided to break it down in to several separate planning sessions with BOMA members. By doing it this way, the chairs of the various sub-committees could be invited to participate in the meeting. Fred Rogers will be grouping the topics together in logical areas to approach and he and the mayor will be scheduling the meetings. You will be hearing more from me as these planning sessions are scheduled. Shirley Wilson, HTC Chair

Greenways are open spaces that create a high quality of life that attract tax-paying businesses and residents to communities. For example, in Chattanooga investments in downtown parks and greenways have spurred new businesses and increased property values. Greenways that seem to have caught the attention of every major city in Tennessee. Read More . . .
Hendersonville has not yet made a commitment, but we are working on that problem. You might want to ask your Alderman, "What's the delay?"
We invite you to visit the greenways in these Cities. Every chance I get I take someone to the WhiteHouse Greenway. The benefits are so immediately obvious that once you visit and walk or ride one you will find it difficult to imagine why Hendersonville isn't rushing to participate.

FLORIDA'S 30A BIKEWAY
I have just returned from the Florida panhandle and area around route 30A in particular. In overwhelming evidence is - Quality of Life sells homes and communities. Every development now promotes the New Urbanism that Seaside made famous. With bicycles everywhere and the infrastructure to support them, the city planners leave little doubt of their importance in promoting the assets of the community. They constructed simple, inexpensive bike-friendly solutions to many of the same issues every city faces. As I rode along bikeway on route 30A,I compared this older design to the more recent Indian Lake Boulevard design. I understand why the members of the past Bike/Pedestrian Review Committee were upset. Read more...

Bruce Day's and David Irvine's Great Adventure
All's going well, no rain at all while on ride. Maybe a little welcome mist. Traffic into London was awful but Bob led us magnificiently. The bed and Breakfast's have been terrific. The last two days were warm enough to cycle in shorts and just cycling shirt (Bikers Choice of course). I'm taking lots of photos. We are holding up well but are glad for the rest day. Plan to train out of London tomorrow to avoid traffic. No mechanicals and still only one flat.
Generally the roads and cycle lanes are very narrow by our standards but the cars, cycles and walkers seem to co-exist well enough.
