Cathy Haley and David Hardin (owner of Biker’s Choice) and members of the Hendersonville Greenways Committee are asking the opinion of school children in grades 6 through 12.

On April 11’th watch Cathy on TV address the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and explain that the contest runs from April 15’th through May 7’th and that our celebrity judges: Jamie Clary, Scott Foster, David Hardin, Don Long, and Shirley Wilson will decide who gives the best answer.

JOYCE HOYLE VOLUNTEERS TO HELP

In a 3/24/06 meeting called by Senator Diane Black and David Hardin, Joyce Hoyle, retired Director of the Recreation Educational Services (RES) Division of Tennessee, volunteered to work with the City and the Committee to bring in technical expertise to give our greenway activities the visibility/status to qualify for grants and to search out those funds, provided that the City Staff and BOMA are receptive to that assistance.

Joyce has worked with many of our neighboring communities to help obtain grants and is well recognized for her expertise.  We feel fortunate to have her involved as an advisor to our committee.

SAUNDERSVILLE RD GETS BIKE LANES

We are indebted to the efforts of Frank Bowyer IV, Bruce Day, and Timothy Whitten to get 4-ft bike lanes added  (Hendersonville Star News)

Developers will also be installing a pedestrian sidewalk that will run the length of the development’s frontage with Saundersville Road as well as 4-foot bike lanes.

Our committee, especially Frank Bowyer IV, works with City Planners, Engineers, and the Planning Commission to encourage developers to include Bike Lanes and greenway trails.

TOWN RIDES

Adult bike riding isn’t just for those trim bodies in multi-colored spandex.  Some of us seniors find getting on a bike to be a great source of low impact exercise, plus it is a great way to enjoy our community.

We would like to share some of the routes on the City’s Master Plan.  These casual rides are targeted for our young and our senior advocates who want to get some light and relaxing exercise.  The length of the ride will depend on you.

Our focus is the two bike routes on Indian Lake Peninsula.  Along the western edge runs the best route for casual rider.  Our trail head is Kids’ Kingdom in Memorial Park.

If you would like to join us, send us an e-mail with your preferred times for biking at bikinhville@evanscenter.com . We will try to put together rides that match the schedules of the majority.

         REPORT TO

  HENDERSONVILLE

         TOMORROW

         COMMITTEE

On March 31’st we delivered our report to the Hendersonville Tomorrow Committee.  We were disappointed in the reporting format.  Whereas, we prepared an extensive 24-page plan in story-board format with charts, maps, and colored pictures, all the Committee wanted was a brief sketch, which in our opinion is hardly sufficient to describe the history and greenway opportunity for Hendersonville.  To view this plan click on the REPORT link on
