PURPOSE: To develop a comprehensive Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan for City of Hendersonville and provide direction for development of bikeway & pedestrian facilities within the City and in the process assist in the obtaining of state and/or federal funds.
SCOPE:
- determine most feasible routes
- recommend design standards
- estimate costs
GOALS:
- Access from residential areas to schools & parks
- Recognize existing commitments to bike & pedestrian development
- Designs appropriate to each designated area
- Utilize professional standards (i.e. AASHTO)
RESULT:
- 22 miles of multi-use paths
- 15 miles of bicycle lanes
- 29 miles of bicycle routes
- Estimated cost is $9.8 million
- Timing 20 years to develop.

BACKGROUND: on 7/14/2000 a very comprehensive plan was prepared by IDE Associates, Inc in association with RPM & ASSOCIATES HAWKINS PARTNERS, INC in cooperation with the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and funded by the U.S. Department of Transportaion (Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration), the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the City of Hendersonville, and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
